While out banding recently we finally caught what I've been hoping for-a raptor!A Sharp Shinned Hawk-back when we banded those Bohemians a Coopers went into the net but immediately bounced out-but this time the Sharpie was caught. Thickson Woods during Spring Migration is an amazing place to be, you can easily count 75-100 species there. We banded 51 birds the other day and we only had three nets up! They were filling consistently with a variety of birds, Warblers of course (Canada, Magnolia, Northern Parula, Nashville, Ovenbird) and some others, Orioles, American Robin, Veery, Downy Woodpecker. He has recently published a paper titled "Characteristics of Urban Natural Areas Influencing Winter Bird Use" in the journal Environmental Management (Volume 39, Number 3 / March, 2007). Everyone was waiting for Winter to arrive and now it has with a vengeance. Last week while at the Park I saw a flock of twenty American Robins, down by the south duck pond. They are looked puffed up and cold and were pecking at berries that were surely frozen! I am going to report this sighting to Journey North an online tracking database for Robins, you can report any sightings of yours there

Well finally Winter has arrived and it is now too cold to go banding, so there isn't really much to report here, but I did want to let you know that Christmas now has a tail. Yesterday TBO had a seasonal Open House, unfortunately a lot of people couldn't make it due to other plans or travelling, but all that did come had a great time. We worked in Spring Creek Meadow today and we really didn't think that much would be happening birdwise-but as usual we were surprised! Saturday October 21, was an amazing day at Hawk Hill in High Park. We had a few birds, then a quiet hour and thought we'd collapse nets for awhile when RUSH HOUR struck. A lot of Golden Crowned Kinglets, a couple of Ruby, some chickadees, a couple of Brown Creepers, a few Slate Coloured Juncos, one Tennesse Warbler (a surprise) and a Myrtle Warbler.
